Quick & Easy Polished Top Knot Tutorial
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen the teaser in my story that I've been dabbling in something new over the past week. For the first time, I've taken a stab at filming a video tutorial, adding in voiceover & editing it all together. (FYI - it takes way longer than one would anticipate!)
And let me just tell you, this is a HUGE accomplishment for me! The fact that I've taught myself a new set of skills is great, but what really makes this a win for me is that I am stomping on a fear that I've had for years and years - being in front of the camera. I fangirl hard over all the beauty YouTubers and watch their videos religiously, but have never thought that I had the chops to do something like that myself. If I'm being honest, just hearing my own voice recorded makes me uncomfortable, much less seeing my entire self recorded for an extended period of time (insert horrified face).
But recently I stopped and asked myself the question - "Why?" Why don't I have the chops to film a video tutorial, just like all the incredible women on YouTube do? And frankly, I couldn't come up with a single good answer. Because truthfully, the only thing that was standing in my way was myself - and the only person who could remove that barricade was me. So, you know what? I finally did.
Now, don't get me wrong - I was still terrified to push this video 'live' and to put myself out into the world, in such a vulnerable way. But that fear is far overshadowed by the excitement I have for trying something new and for pushing myself outside my comfort zone.
So, here we go.

Y'all, I wear this look all the dang time and I can't tell you how many compliments I get on it! I'm known for it in my office and even had a coworker write about my bun in my birthday card. (okay, so maybe I wear it a little too often...)
But, you really can't beat it! This top knot looks so polished and put together that everyone always thinks I've performed some kind of sorcery to my hair when in reality it takes five minutes to accomplish and is the perfect 'lazy hair day' look. In this tutorial, I was going on 2nd day hair, but #letsbehonest, this look is amazing for 3rd or 4th day hair - you know, if you're into that kind of thing...
Or, if you prefer to wash your hair daily (but whyyyy??), this can definitely be done on clean hair, as well. Whatever floats your boat ladies! The key to this look is all about the tease - so don't be shy about poofing that ponytail up and getting lots of volume going. The bigger, the better.
